Flight of the Curators

Leah Dickerman is leaving the National Gallery for MoMA. This year has witnessed the departures of Jonathan Binstock, Jay Gates, Olga Viso, and Jeffrey Weiss. With exceptional curatorial and directorial talent draining from the District, and with an excess of demand for museum curators and directors at a national level, the city is looking forward to a serious problem. "Crisis" is not overstating the matter.

I'm an insider, so please don't disclose anything about my identity. I can confirm that Dickerman is leaving the NGA because she saw the writing on the wall and knew she wouldn't get Weiss' position. This is a real shame, considering she mounted the Dada show, probably the best NGA exhibition in the last decade.

I'm not an insider, but with all due respect to the NGA, perhaps Dickeman is leaving the Gallery because she had the opportunity to work at MoMA. What modern curator would turn that down?
