Who edits this stuff?

If not the worst opinion, surely the worst opinion column the Washington Post has ever published. Above and beyond Courland Milloy's idiotic objections to the HPV vaccine, since when is cervical cancer a subject that deserves so much snark?

Agreed. I was appalled when I read this last night. Milloy doesn't seem aware of how common HPV is, how little stigma is therefore attached to it, or how important it is to reduce its frequency in a population, any population, that wants to reduce rates of cervical cancer.

I at first thought that Milloy was a bit too racist, however it got me to thinking. You both (it seems obvious to me, but I could be mistaken) don't seem to have children. If you did, you would realize that there is an extremely large amount of information out there about the dangers of vaccines today. If you had children, you would know that pediatricians are the most over-worked practitioners out there and often, for convience sake only, shoot sick children up with multiple vaccines in one appointment, instead of making 3 appointments (allowing for a parent to witness any reactions and be able to pinpoint what the child is reacting to)and allowing the runny nose to go away before another shot is administered.If you had children, you would also realize that it is very common in this day and age, especially among urban educated progressive parents to choose NOT to circumcize their boys. This is a barbaric practice but I digress. If you were women, you would be intimately aware of the massive amounts of your sisters who currently suffer from endometriosis and the fact that a large part of the male dominated medical field has subjected women to a drug called Lupron to battle endometriosis (Lupron was invented for male prostrate cancer, but what difference does THAT make--it's for things "DOWN there" so let's try it out on women...well it puts women in chemical menopause and makes some of them go crazy...basically what I am saying is that after my initial shock, I now agree with Milloy.
Where is the vaccine for the suburban white boys?
Why is it being mandated for populations that are predominately urban and non-white?

@Alice:

Your post was verbose and your arguments overall incoherent. Congratulations!

Read up on vaccines before bashing them. I suggest this article from Slate for starters. If you are also one of the conspiracy theorists trying to link autism and vaccines, then read this one too.

Overworked pediatricians improperly administrating vaccines is not related to Milloy's article. Neither is circumcision, or the use of Lupron. Either you are trying to confuse the argument, or you yourself are confused. Either way, fix this problem.

Finally, until you can show that the HPV vaccine is being unfairly mandated to blacks and not to whites (or as you like to think, in the hood but not in the 'burbs) your cries of racism are unfounded.

The HPV vaccine is FDA approved and will save thousands of lives each year from cervical cancer. Your incoherent rants only serve to confuse people.
