I happen to know that Lily Cox-Richard feels great affection for Bruce Springsteen, so this one's for her. New media artist and bobo darling Cory Arcangel has recorded glockenspiel tracks for all the parts of Born To Run that don't already include the instrument (which is, what, maybe a minute and a half?). You can order a disc of Arcangel's "Orientalist cascades" (thanks, Pitchfork!) through Beige Records. You'll need to have your own copy of B2R to hear the addendum with the original.
Posted by Kriston at October 27, 2006 9:06 AMBah! I continue to be unimpressed by Cory Arcangel's attempts to market only-vaguely-interesting tech projects as Art. You can find more impressive and interesting projects on the MAKE and Hack-a-day blogs on a regular basis. All you'd have to do is add the phrase "explores the interplay between _____ and _____ in our increasingly _______ culture" to the description of each.
The differences between Arcangel and any other circuit bender or mashup artist are negligible. He's certainly not inventing any of the techniques that he's being celebrated for. More than anything, he reminds me of this guy:

Except capable of producing more varied works and somewhat more convincing bullshit.
Posted by: tom at October 27, 2006 2:22 PMI did say he was a bobo darling.
Posted by: Kriston at October 27, 2006 2:46 PMYeah, I'm not blaming you. I just can't help complaining when I see the guy's name (and I've been seeing it with irritating frequency recently).
Posted by: tom at October 27, 2006 4:08 PMWow. You seem really annoyed. Irrational response, much ? He's an artist. It's art. Chill. It's just art. If you don't like him, turn the other way. If you see his name, don't read it ! I find it interesting, your level of response, that is.
Also, plenty of people whos job it is to know art and it's history and relevance seem to like his work. Doesn't mean you have to ( obviously ), but it can provide a piece to a puzzle and go some distance to explain his popularity and success.
Posted by: Jamie at October 27, 2006 11:16 PMi wish i had a kick-ass last name like Arcangel.
...and bigger pixels.
