The Source

Howdy, WaPo readers. If you're looking for the Rioult post, click here. For more art stuff, scroll down or click here. For published art stuff, click here and search for "capps". To disconnect, press 0, or simply hang up.

MORE: Hilariously, the online Style section offers a link to the Reliable Source column about Rioult—that's almost like actual Style reporting on local art news! Or maybe the RS is featured online wherever it's relevant, in which case . . . the Style section still sucks.

Um, What exactly is so hilarious about the online Style section linking to the Reliable Source column??? The Reliable Source column runs in the Style section on a daily basis, and is always linked to it online. It's not "almost like" Style reporting on the Flashpoint scandal, it IS Style reporting on it (Roxanne Roberts and Amy Argetsinger are Style staffers after all). Sure, the article came out two weeks after the fact, and was written by gossip columnists, but it was reporting nonetheless. The Style section may suck, but misrepresenting the facts ain't pretty either.

Okay, fair enough, Mr. Chambers. As I said, I don't rely on the Style section for much in the way of area reportage, and I take my Reliable Source online. But I disagree that the gossip column constitutes true arts reportage, exactly. Which isn't to say anything about Roberts or Argetsinger, but rather the Style-ists whose beat this story ought to fall under.

Who is "misrepresenting the facts"?????????????

Since it seems you need clarification Pie, here is the misrepresentation:
'that's almost like actual Style reporting on local art news! '
The Reliable Source is a regular column in the Style section. If you read the paper on a regular basis, you would see that occasionally RS covers art, seems like art related parties more than anything, but this IS ACTUAL STYLE reporting, by actual Style writers on a party that went bad in an arts space.
another misrepresentation of the facts...
"maybe the RS is featured online wherever it's relevant"
If Kriston regularly checked, he would find that RS is ALWAYS part of Style online

[Sigh.] This blog, albeit unintentionally, misrepresented the fact that The Reliable Source column is a Style feature, written by Style reporters, by suggesting that there was something laughable or strange about the fact that the RS's Rioult item was linked online to the Style section. There isn't.

Kriston was gracious in acknowledging his error. He doesn't read Style much, and when he reads RS, her reads it online. It was an honest mistake. Case closed.

I should just point out that I don't dispute his contention that it wasn't "true" (or even very good) arts reportage either. It wasn't. But it was reporting nonetheless, and by the Style section, even though it came two weeks late, written by gossip columnists instead of a knowledgable art writer, and was apparently cribbed from this blog with little added information.
