School of Rock

I sincerely hope that The Willie Mae Rock and Roll Camp for Girls is funded by our tax dollars—I want to believe that we all had a hand in this.

"The Pink Slips." Fantastic. Eyeball Skeleton had better watch their backs.

UPDATE: It is crucial that you listen to The Bookworms' "The World Is Becoming a Wasteland." More stuff here.

Hey Kriston:

Do you know or the folks out there know if there's anything locally?
Totally something to support.

Dunno, Faith, but I hope so. Let me shoot a line to the DCist kids and ask them.

Hello,
I am hosting the second show at the BARN BARNACLE this Saturday, August 20th at 7:00 pm. The BARN BARNACLE is a studio/performance/exhibition/garage space located in the alley at 1307 Longfellow Street NW (between 13th and 14th). On Saturday Videohippos will be performing.
Thank you, Jason

So cool that you blogged on this. Greg and I have agreed that if we ever have a girl who wants to rock out, we're shipping her ass off to such a camp, no questions asked.

Fist one was in Portland, BTW.

Any daughter living under my roof will rock out whether she wants to or not!

Jason: Thanks for the note. I read about it elsewhere, too. I'm tied up that night, but let me know next time.

Thats MY kid on guitar....Blaine!

This summer, her camp band was That One Band. Girls need more things like RRC4G. It is truly an empowering thing.

There is the Young Women Drumming Empowerment Project- a slightly different project, but with the goal of empowering young women in DC through drumming, poetry/spoken word and performance. Check out their site for more information: www.youngwomendrum.org

They have upcoming performances in September at DCAC.

Freedom Girl: Cool!

AAS: See, that sounds like drum circles—totally different. I can't get behind that. Double bass drums, sí! Double bongos, not so much.
