The Rose Revolution

UPDATE: As for Holiday Bowl–bound Cal's complaints—don't hate the Longhorns, hate the game. Someone at Cal might want to point out to Cal QB Aaron Rodgers the contradition in his statements, "Nobody cares about West Coast football," and, "I just hope Southern Cal represents us well [as the top-ranked team in the Orange Bowl]." It's hardly Mack Brown's fault that an extra week isn't added to the season for a proper playoff system instead of the stupid BCS, but I don't begrudge Cal their frustration. And yet I won't think about Cal for one commercial-break moment while I'm watching Texas play one of my favorite non-Big XII teams in the nation. Hook 'em horns.

Texas v. Michigan should be pretty good. Isn't Texas a pretty young team, too?

Screw Cal and their belly-aching. They controlled their own destiny going into the last week of the season, and they blew it. All they had to do is dominate Southern Miss and they were in the Rose Bowl. Instead they played lousy -- a lot lousier than the final score indicated -- and they lost their spot. If you can't run up the score on Southern Miss with a BCS Bowl on the line, you deserve to play in the Holiday Bowl.

What goes around comes around.

Next year we'll be the ones bitching ... again.

Has anyone ever thought of setting up one of those petition sites, a la Draft Clark, in which millions of people can tell the dumb ass NCAA to implement a playoff system?

So, we want to encourage teams to run up the score on their opponents? I commend Cal for NOT running up the score. What's funny to me is that Cal won on a weekend that UT didn't play, yet still got passed in the BCS. Wanna talk about close games... look at USC. They remained #1 because they WON.

Even more funny is that Cal and UT each lost only one game. Cal lost to USC (#1) by 6 points and more than doubled them in total yards (424 vs 164). UT got shut out by Oklahoma (#2) 12-0 and were dominated in terms of total yards (240 vs 414). It makes no sense that UT got into the BCS over Cal... other than Mack Brown's whining and a few Texas reporters changing their vote.

What's worse is that Pitt got into the BCS. They get something like $14 million for having an OK season and Cal misses out. You're right though, don't hate the playa, hate the game! Screw the BCS!
